We chat with co-founder and creative director of Victoria based fossil restoration gallery and museum Dino Lab Carly Burbank about travelling the world to find unique specimens for display and just why dinosaurs bring such a high level of fascination in people of all ages.
For many of us we all go through a dinosaur phase, in which we eat, sleep and dream purely about those prehistoric creatures that have fascinated humans for centuries. One woman in Victoria took that fascination to a new level, and alongside her husband has used it to create Dino Lab, a hands on fossil experience in Victoria in which people can come in and see fossils and bones up close and personal as well as get an opportunity to interact with them like nowhere else in Canada. That woman is Carly Burbank, who co-founded Dino Lab with her husband Terry Ciotka and opened it up to the public in 2019. Outside of Dino Lab serving as a great place for dinosaur lovers to come and experience dinosaurs in one of the most unique ways possible, the facility also serves as a fossil and bone restorative lab in which fossils from around the world are preserved back into the former glory. Host Ben Waterworth talks to Carly about what brought about the idea for Dino Lab, travelling the world to find new specimens, hanging out with a T-Rex and why they might have the most unique experience for people to have in all of Victoria.
