Tuesday is Remembrance Day, a time to honour the nation’s veterans and reflect on the many Canadians who lost their lives fighting for our country.
Nov. 11 marks 106 years since the end of the First World War, which saw 6K Victorians—17% of the population at the time—enlist to fight.
Canadian soldiers have been called on in many wars, conflicts, and peace missions since and across the city, ceremonies and events will be held to remember their sacrifices.
From cenotaph ceremonies and parades to music and hands-on activities, there are plenty of ways to take part in the day.

Victoria Remembrance Day | 10:30-12pm
The Remembrance Day parade will run along the Inner Harbour, with a ceremony at the Legislative Cenotaph. Note that roads will be closed along Wharf, Humboldt, Government and Belleville from 10am-12pm.
Royal Roads Remembrance Day | 10:40am-4pm
The day begins at 10:40am with a solemn Remembrance Day ceremony on the Castle Terrace Lawn outside Hatley Castle. Following the ceremony, catch a performance from the Victoria Children’s Choir at 11:30am and a screening of the documentary Story Pole: Indigenous Veterans and the Tallest Totem in the World at 11:45am. The day will wrap with a performance from the Pacific Opera at 2pm—Remembering Mary’s Wedding offers the opportunity to engage in the ritual of remembrance through storytelling and music.
Oak Bay Remembrance Day | 10:55am
A wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Oak Bay Cenotaph on Beach and will include a moment of silence at 11am.
Remembrance Day at Saanich Municipal Hall | 10:45-11:45am
Join for a moment of silence and wreath laying at the Saanich Cenotaph on Vernon.
Langford Remembrance Day | 9am
Join Langford Legion #91 for its annual parade and ceremony in Veteran’s Memorial Park. The parade will begin at 9am from the Legion Hall, heading toward the ceremony in the park. The parade will return to the Legion after the service.
Esquimalt Remembrance Day | 10am-12pm
Head to the town where Canada’s Royal Navy operates, and take in a service with Navy members, cadets, the Royal Canadian Legion, and Scouts Canada for a wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial Park Cenotaph on Esquimalt Road. A parade will start at the Tudor House (Admirals and Esquimalt), ending at the park service.
Sidney Remembrance Parade and Ceremony | 10:30am
The traditional Remembrance Day Parade will begin at 10:30am starting at the Mary Winspear Centre, running along Beacon Avenue and Second, to the cenotaph. The service will begin at 10:50am. A flypast is planned during the two-minute silence at 11:00am.
A Day of Remembrance at Fort Rodd Hill | 10am-3pm
Take part in activities to learn about the experiences of those living through a world war—discover how to ration, get up close with historical artifacts, and see a weapons demonstration at the National Historic Site. Refreshments will be available.
Sooke Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremony | 10:30am
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54 will host the event, with a parade starting at 10:30am at Evergreen Plaza, leading to the ceremony at the cenotaph at 10:50am. Refreshments will be available at the Legion Hall afterwards.
